COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Rain and thunderstorms that hit southwest Michigan Thursday afternoon washed out many Branch County high school sports events. The Coldwater JV and varsity baseball and softball doubleheaders with Portage Central were scraped.
The varsity action will be made up Friday afternoon in Portage. Because both the JV baseball and softball teams host tournaments Saturday, their games will not be made up at this time.
Baseball and softball action for Union City and Quincy was also postponed until today. Coldwater’s Interstate 8 Conference tennis meet with Pennfield was also postponed. It has been rescheduled for next Wednesday, April 26th.
In softball action that did happen Thursday after a one hour rain delay, Bronson swept a doubleheader from Niles Brandywine 7-0 and 12-2. Adyson Lasky and Allie Sikorski were the winning pitchers.
Payton Robinson and Sikorski both homered in the first game. Sikorski and Kiera Lasky both drove in two runs. Kiera Lasky belted a grand slam in the nightcap while Robinson had two doubles. Sikorski had three RBI’s in the second game. Ashton Wronikowski collected two hits and drove in two runs. Kiana Mayer also had two hits in the nightcap.
Bronson’s overall record is 8-6 and they are 2-0 in the BCS.
