COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners voted during their work session Thursday to bring forward to next Tuesday’s meeting two staffing requests. The first was from Drain Commissioner Michael Hard for the Department of Public Works. Hard wants the position filled immediately and the person needs to be certified since a current operator is 62 years old and getting close to retirement.
Meanwhile, County Complex Manager Scott Walls wants to bring in contract employees who would take care of lawns at nine properties for about 24 hours a week, since another county employee is on approved medical leave.
On another matter, County Administrator Bud Norman said the April rain has delayed the start of construction of the new animal shelter next to the county jail.
Norman said the plans for the facility will be gone over one more time with county officials before work begins.
Following a closed session, Commissioner Leonard Kolcz said he had talked with Sheriff John Pollack and the Sheriffs Department will be looking to hire two part time officers to handle security at the front desk at the Courthouse. They would work no more than 20 hours a week.
