HOMER, MI (WTVB) – In high school track and field, both of the Union City teams finished second on Wednesday in a Big 8 meet at Homer.
Concord won the boys meet with 67 points followed by Union City with 43 points and Homer with 27. Union City winners were Zachary Woodard in the high jump and long jump, Gavin Hooker in the 200 and Brandan Cross in the discus. The Chargers won the 800 relay.
Concord also win the girls meet with 52 points followed by Union City with 46 points and Homer with 35 points. Charger winners were Rebecca Maurer in both of the hurdle races and Rachel Wing in the shot put and discus. Union City won the 400 and 800 relays.
Quincy split with Athens. The Orioles won the boys meet 99-38 but Athens won the girls meet 72-65.
Winners for Quincy in the boys meet were Ryan Gibson in the 100, Bryce Ruhl in the 200 and long jump, Nathan Nohr in the 800, 1600 and 3200, Michael Fisher in the 110 hurdles, Daniel Jacobs in the 300 hurdles and Jonathan Purvis in the shot put. Quincy won the 400, 800 and 3200 relays.
Quincy winners in the girls meet were Jessica Holcomb in the 200 and long jump, Harmony Harpster in the 400, Madelyn Allman in the 100 hurdles and Mackenzie Blatter in the pole vault. Quincy won the 400, 1600 and 3200 relays.
In a track meet that took place on Tuesday night, Coldwater swept Jackson Northwest by scores of 108-55 for the boys and 93-37 for the girls.
Cardinal winners in the boys meet were Zack Murphy in the 400, Shuaib Aljabaly in the 800 and 1600, Jordan Parkinson in the 3200, Adam Bailey in the 110 and 300 hurdles, Connor Covert in the shot put and discus, Faheem Abdullah in the pole vault and Jaden Coney in the long jump. Coldwater also won the 1600 and 3200 relays.
Coldwater winners in the girls meet were Allison Butler in the 100, Kathy Potter in the 800, Elka Machan in the 1600, Jasmine Wellet in the 100 and 300 hurdles, Kaci White in the shot put, Jordan Bouse in the discus, Claire Sheppard in the high jump and Erika Parkinson in the long jump.
