EDWARDSBURG, MI (WTVB) -The Coldwater High School girls varsity soccer fell behind early and couldn’t rally back, losing at non-conference Edwardsburg 2-1 Monday night.
Edwardsburg picked up both their goals in the first half, with the Lady Cardinals goal coming with 7:20 to play in the game on a Malorie Rzepka corner kick that was headed in by Jasmine Wellet. Coldwater outshot Edwardsburg 11-6, with Nadia Kiersey making 4 saves in goal.
With their third straight loss, Coldwater drops to 1-3-1 on the season. They will kick off the Interstate 8 Conference portion of their season Wednesday at home against Marshall.
—BOYS GOLF—
Coldwater finished third on Monday at the ten team Adrian Maple Invitational held at the Lenawee Country Club. Coldwater finished with a team score of 348. They were led by Cam Ruge who shot a 77 which made him Medalist for the second invitational in a row. Alec Keplinger shot an 84, Tanner Bowers had a 91, Kyle Herman carded a 96 and Cam Bopp rounded out Coldwater’s scoring with a 97.
Coldwater’s 348 was one stroke behind runner-up Tecumseh which had a 347 and 14 strokes behind the winners from Pinckney who had a 334. Coldwater will play in the first I – 8 Jamboree on Wednesday when they travel to the Cascades Golf course in Jackson.
Bronson finished fourth at the first BCS Jamboree of the season on Monday which was hosted by Centreville. Brandon Hyska led the Vikings with a 40.
—GIRLS TENNIS—
Marshall 6, Coldwater 2
The Cardinals got their points from Emma Grife at number one singles and from Payton Molnar and Melissa Vozar at number four doubles. Two of the Marshall victories came in three set matches. The loss in their Interstate 8 conference opener dropped Coldwater’s record to 3-2. They will host Battle Creek Pennfield on Thursday.
