QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – The Coolest Gym in Michigan is scheduled to get new bleachers this summer.
The Quincy School Board approved a bid of just over $223,000 last month from Interkal Spectator Seating of Kalamazoo for the new plastic bleachers.
One bank would be 12 rows high while the bleachers behind the team benches would have ten rows. The seating capacity will be for just over 1,100 spectators.
The Interkal bid was one of three submitted to the district.
The current wooden bleachers have been inside of the Quincy gym since it was built in 1961.
School officials say the current bleachers are barely passing safety inspections and replacement parts to bring the bleachers up to safety standards can not be ordered.
The new bleachers are scheduled to be installed this summer after school lets out. School officials hope some of the old bleachers can be salvaged.
