HOMER, MI (WTVB) – Quincy’s boys track team won their portion of the Homer Pork Weiss track meet on Saturday. The Orioles won 10 events as they finished first with 187 points. Addison was second with 109 1/2 and Springport was third with 101 1/2.
Bryce Ruhl won the 200 and the long jump for Quincy while Jonathan Purvis won the shot put and discus. Other Oriole winners were Sebastian Gillette in the 400, Nathan Nohr in the 1600 and Michael Fisher in the 110 hurdles. Quincy also won the 400, 800 and 3200 relays.
Quincy’s girls tied Springport for first place at the Homer Pork Weiss Invitational on Saturday. Both squads finished with 130 points. Winners for Quincy were Madelyn Allman in the 300 hurdles, Gabby Porter in the 3200, Jessica Holcomb in the long jump and Emily Hollenbaugh in the high jump. The Orioles won the 400 and 3200 relays.
—MIDDLE SCHOOL TRACK—
Coldwater hosted the Middle School Cardinal Relays on Saturday against Bronson, Union City, Reading, and Fremont. Union City Boys took first with 66 points while Legg Middle School took second with 44 points. First place relay teams were Kolby Wagoner, Spencer Rodesiler, and Gavin Budd in Long Jump, Owen Tom, Deandre Douglas, Marshall Hoard in Pole Vault, Mohammed Nasser, Radwan Alsourime, and Daiffalah Ahmed in the Distance Medley Relay.
In the girls event Fremont took first with 54 points while Legg Middle School was second with 52 points. First place finishes were Claudia Rodriguez, Madison Hardy, Ezma Machan in Long Jump, Ezma Machan and Legend Szafranski placed first and broke the meet record which was 19:37, in the 3 mile relay with a time of 19:12.
More first place finishes for the girls were Alyssa Bach, Anna Demeester, Mia Rzepka, and Madison Hardy in the Shuttle Hurdle Relay, Madison Hardy, Legend Szafranski, and Carolyn Potter in the Distance Medley Relay, Brynn Babcock, Tasha Pike, Claudia Rodriguez, and Mia Rzepka in the 4 x 100 relay.
In the co-ed competition Union City took the first place trophy with 110 points while Legg took second with 104 points. Legg will face Jackson Northwest in Jackson this Thursday.
—BOYS GOLF—
Coldwater tied for fourth on Saturday at the Kalamazoo Christian Comet Open at Thornapple Creek Golf Course. The Cardinals and the host Comets both had team scores of 335. Coldwater was led by Cam Ruge whose even par round of 72 earned him Medalist honors for the event. Cameron Bopp shot an 86, Alec Keplinger had an 87, Kyle Herman carded a 90, Tanner Bowers had a 93 and Austin Butler rounded out Coldwater’s scoring with a 100.
Coldwater next travels to the Lenawee Country Club on Monday to participate in the Maple Invitational.

The Coldwater girls JV soccer took won their own inaugeral invitational tournament Saturday, going 2-0 Saturday by beating Harper Creek 2-1 and Sturgis 1-0.
