QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – In an effort to clear the air about rumors that have been floating around, Quincy Police Chief Dalton Turmell addressed what happened at EAB Fabrication on South Main Street last week in his report for Tuesday’s Village Council meeting.
He said while employees were unloading one of the semis last Thursday, they found a crate that contained some firearms and hunting gear.
The truck traveled from Mexico to Michigan so there were some fears illegal activity was taking place.
During an investigation with the ATF, it was found two hunters were trying to get their hunting gear shipped to them in Texas but the trailer went to Quincy instead.
Turmell says they are holding evidence until the agents get a chance to confirm the identity and the stories of the parties involved.
The truck drivers were found to have no knowledge of what was in the truck. They were detained pending the investigation but the ATF later ordered them released.
Meanwhile, Turmell reports he has an interview this Thursday with a local person who is seeking full time employment as a police officer after going through the mandatory police academy.
Officer Sean Meyer has started his training and Jody Miller is now on board as the department’s new code enforcement employee.
