Bernita K. Russo, 99, of Coldwater passed away Thursday, January 23, 2025 at Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 5, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Pastor Mark Case from California Community Church officiating.
Visitation will be held Saturday, prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home.
Interment will be Monday, April 7, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery in Coldwater.
Bernita was born July 6, 1925 in Ontario, IN to Otto & Margaret (Gatten) Carpenter. She graduated from Sturgis High School in 1943 and married Joseph A. Russo June 22, 1946 in Coldwater. He preceded her in death September 18, 1982.
Bernita worked for LA Darling for 30 years and then for the Coldwater Community Schools lunch program. She attended St. Charles Borromeo Church and enjoyed flower gardening and reading.
Bernita was known for her excellent baking, especially her chocolate chip cookies. She adored her family and treasured the time they spent together.
Bernita is survived by her children Marian Kimble, Janice (Terry Reen) Russo, Frank (Deborah) Russo all of Coldwater; 7 grandchildren; many great and great, great grandchildren and many very special nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings Pauline Laing, Mildred Kaniewski, Retha Kriser, Elma Mayhew, Dorothy Derrickson, Charles Carpenter and her son-in-law Norman Kimble.
