Hans Herman Geiger, 85, of Coldwater, peacefully passed on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at the Drews Place of Coldwater.
A memorial service will be planned for spring/summer to celebrate the life of Hans. The family is being served by Lighthouse Funeral and Cremation of Union City.
Hans Herman Geiger was born October 19, 1935 to Herman and Gabriele Geiger of Bronson, Michigan. Hans graduated from Bronson High School in 1953 and shortly after served his country in the 5th Army unit for three years. He was stationed in Washington state and California, where he trained as a Combat Engineer. On September 18, 1965, Hans married the former Connie Wheeler at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Bronson.
After attending journeymen’s school at Glen Oaks Community College, Hans began his career in tool and die, working for Bronson Specialties in 1964 and departing after 16 years of service. During his tenure at Bronson Specialties, Hans, Connie, and a great group of men and women started in 1971 a family-owned business, Geiger EDM. Hans and Connie would recall all who worked at Geiger EDM never worked for Hans, rather, they always worked with him, demonstrating the family culture of the organization.
Hans was known as a kind, caring, and loving family man who placed family first. Friends, too, were always considered as family to Hans. He lived by the values of honesty, hard work, and the occasional celebration with family and friends. Hans loved wildlife and animals and enjoyed teaching kids to fish. He enjoyed a good joke with the guys from the shop over the break table. Hans & Connie enjoyed trips to Hawaii, Vegas, Florida and Alaska with good friends.
For the last three years Hans resided in Coldwater; however, he had lived the majority of his life in Bronson, where he was a member of St. Mary’s of Assumption Church. He also belonged to American Legion Post #52 in Coldwater.
Hans is survived by the love of his life for 55 years, his wife, Connie; his daughter and son-in-law, Shelly and Andy AcMoody, of Coldwater; his son and daughter-in-law, Hans M. and Nora Geiger, of Vicksburg; his grandchildren, Matthew AcMoody, Lydia AcMoody, Hans A. Geiger and Marcus Geiger; many loving nieces and nephews; his siblings, Rita Schwing of Longboat Key, FL and Hubert Geiger of Bronson; and his brother-in-law, Don Wheeler, of Bronson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Dr. Fred Schwing; sister-in-law, Carol Ann Wheeler; mother-in-law, Phyllis Wheeler; and father-in-law, Frank Wheeler.
Memorial donations are suggested to the Bronson Fire Department, 124 S Matteson St, Bronson, MI 49028; the Humane Society of Branch County, 969 Wildwood Road, Quincy, MI 49082; or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
