COMSTOCK, MI (WTVB) – In high school baseball Tuesday, Coldwater split a doubleheader at Comstock. The Cardinals won the opener 10-2 before Comstock won the nightcap 8-3. Coldwater scored five runs in the first inning of the opener and collected 11 hits in the first game victory. Austin Spray was the winning pitcher and drove in three runs.
Comstock used a seven run second inning to win the nightcap. The split left Coldwater with a record of 4-3 heading into Thursdays doubleheader at Lowe Field against Marshall.
Jonesville swept Quincy 6-3 and 8-1. Logan Banks had two hits in the opener while Connor Katz delivered an RBI double in the second game.
Athens scored twice in the top of the eighth to defeat Union City 5-3 in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader.
GIRLS SOFTBALL—
Coldwater and Bronson split their doubleheader on the Vikings diamond. Coldwater won the opener 8-1, Bronson took the nightcap 15-13 after falling behind 8-0 in the first inning. Jamie Wellet had three hits for Coldwater in the opener while Darlene Horn drove in three runs. Tyler Scheid struck out eight to get the win.
Bronson belted four home runs in the second game, two of them by Ashton Wronikowski who also drove in four runs. Payton Robinson and Adyson Lasky also homered for Bronson. Allie Sikorski was the winning pitcher. Samantha Rodesiler homered and drove in three runs for Coldwater. Coldwater is now 2-1. They will host Marshall for a twinbill on Thursday. Bronson is now 3-4.
Union City swept Athens 7-2 and 10-6. Skyler Herman homered and drove in three runs in the opener. Winning pitcher Haley Rivard tossed a two hitter and struck out seven. Autumn Carpenter and RaeAnn Sanders both had three hits in the second game. Sanders smacked a pair of doubles to help Alison Adams get the win. Rivard earned the save.
Quincy swept Jonesville 14-3 and 9-8. Winning pitcher Hannah Economou helped her own cause with four hits including a homer and five RBI’s in the first game. Kaydee Swafford also drove in three runs. Economou homered in the nightcap while Megan Kurt had three hits and Taylor Todd drove in two runs. Kelsey Mainstone was the winning pitcher. Quincy is now 2-2 overall and 2-0 in the Big 8.
