SPRINGPORT, MI (WTVB) – The Bronson Vikings edged the Union City Chargers by two-and-a-half points to win the Big 8 Conference Wrestling Tournament at Springport on Saturday.
After going undefeated in conference dual meets during the regular season, the Vikings wrapped up the 2024-25 season championship with their close win in the Big 8 tournament.
Bronson finished first in the tournament with 147 points followed by Union City with 144 1/2 points. The host Spartans were third with 108 points. Quincy finished fifth in the final tournament standings with 66 points.
Bronson’s Layne Knisely (165), Mason Lindsey (175) and Sam Tappenden (heavyweight) won conference championships.
Other top four finishers for Bronson were Brayton Cosby (3rd-113), Jovani Ramos (3rd-120), Kenric Smith (3rd-126), Brier Green (4th-132), Owen Kimmons (2nd-138), Brycen Fincham (2nd-144), Caleb Harvey (3td-150), Collin York (2nd-157) and Bennett Pierucki (2nd-215).
Union City had five champions. Winning their weight classes were Blayne Crance (106), Kaden Russell (120), Logan Mears (138), Alex Boyer (150) and Montana Connell (157). Mears won his fourth conference championship as he joined Dale Locker (1995-1998), Phil Goodrich (2002-2005) and Landyn Crance (2021-2024) as Union City’s fourth ever four time Big 8 champion.
Other top four finishers for Union City were Westin Connell (2nd-126), Gabe Mowry (3rd-132), Andrew Tundevold (3rd-144), John Olmsted (3rd-175) and Luke Cronkright (2nd-285).

Quincy’s Caleb Rose captured the 132 pound championship. Other top four finishers for the Orioles were Ryan Rose (3rd-106), Landon Bearden (2nd-165), Noah Kelley (4th-175), Lucas Dixon (2nd-190) and Hayden Peters (3rd-215).
