LANSING, MI (WTVB) – The State of Michigan has suspended and issued a notice of intent to revoke the group child care home license for 35-year-old Ember Finley after she was arrested last week on six charges.
The Southwest Enforcement Team and the Michigan State Police seized illegal narcotics including cocaine and a stolen gun when they served a search warrant at what authorities called a licensed daycare facility at 201 Compton on January 30.
The Child Care Licensing Bureau for the Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential said their investigation found violations of the Child Care Organizations Act and administrative rules.
They say Finley “failed to act in a manner that is conducive to the welfare of children” and “failed to ensure the home is conducive to the welfare of children.”
The department ordered her license be revoked as of 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 6, 2025. Finley is prohibited from operating a group child care home at the Compton Street location or at any other address or location.
She may not accept children for care. Finley also has to inform all parents of children in her care that the license has been suspended and that she can no longer provide child care.
Finley has been charged by Branch County Prosecutors with two counts of Dealing or Manufacturing a Controlled Substance, Tampering with Evidence, Maintaining a Drug House, Felony Firearms and Fourth Degree Child Abuse. She is free after posting a $10,000 cash or surety bond.
Not guilty pleas were entered on her behalf during last Friday’s arraignment.
A probable cause hearing in Branch County District Court is scheduled for next Thursday with a preliminary exam on February 19.
