The Jeryn Frederick Memorial Fund recently made several donations to organizations in Branch County, including to Scouts BSA Troop 433 in Coldwater.
The Jeryn Frederick Memorial Fund was established by the family of Jeryn “Jerry” Frederick after his passing in June 2020. Jerry was a 43-year veteran in local law enforcement and pioneered the criminal justice program at the Branch Area Careers Center. Jerry and his wife Carol also served as leaders of Cub Scout Pack 433 and Scouts BSA Troop 433 as their two sons, Eric and Evan, worked their way from Tiger scouts to Eagle Scouts.
“Our father truly lived the Scout Oath and Law in everything he did,” said Eric Frederick. “He was passionate about helping others follow this path, build confidence, and achieve the rank of Eagle Scout.”
The $1,500 donation was made during the Troop’s meeting December 8 with leadership, parents, scouts, and the Frederick family in attendance.
“Troop 433 is very honored and appreciative of the donation from the Frederick family in honor of their husband and father Jerry Frederick,” said John Morrell, Troop 433 Scoutmaster. “This donation will help with the purchase of camping equipment such as new tents and chairs for the Troop. The Troop will also be able to use these funds towards a big camping trip in the summer of 2022. Troop 433 thanks the Frederick family.”
The Memorial Fund has also contributed $2,000 to the Branch County Sheriff’s Department Dive Team to support new equipment purchases and training. Jerry was a long tenured member of the Dive Team during his time as a deputy at the Sheriff’s Department.
The Frederick family is also planning to create two scholarships for students of the Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement program at the Branch Area Careers Center to support those seeking higher education and a career in the field. Jerry founded the BACC Criminal Justice program 25 years ago.
Finally, the Frederick family will also support students that wish to participate in the Agri-Environmental Wilderness Expedition (AEWE) program organized through the Branch Intermediate School District. Jerry was an avid outdoorsman and loved to help students build self-confidence by getting them out into nature.
“Our father was always giving to others, whether it was of his time or talents, and we want to do the same in his honor,” said Dr. Evan Frederick. “Thank you to our hundreds of Memorial Fund contributors that have allowed us to give back to the Branch County community in a meaningful way.”
