COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Progress is being made on putting together a Coldwater Community Schools bond proposal for the November 2017 ballot. Josh Szymanski from the Grand Rapids firm of Owen Ames Kimball updated the Coldwater School Board of Trustees Monday night on the process.
The total cost would be about $29 million with the centerpiece of the proposal being a new 7,000 square foot 4th and 5th grade building to replace Lakeland Elementary.
The school district is looking to put the new building on the site of the Little League ball diamonds on Western Avenue and they are negotiating with the City of Coldwater which own the land.
Other work would include roof replacements and mechanical upgrades.
A survey will also be made available to community members and there was talk about holding another public forum.
Final board action is expected to take place in May as the bond proposal has to go to the Michigan Department of Treasury by June 21, 2017.
