BRONSON, MI (WTVB)- An electrical problem is believed to be the cause of a fire early Friday morning which destroyed a Matteson Township home.
The Bronson Fire Department was called to 273 Culver Road in Matteson Township at 3:15 a.m. after Bronson Area Fire Association President Dennis Schmacher, who lives about a quarter mile away, woke up and noticed a glow outside.
The home is owned by Richard Shumacher. No one was home at the time.
Dennis Schumacher said the flames were already through the roof and coming out every window when he noticed the fire.
The Colon and Sherwood fire departments were called to provide tankers to help shuttle water from Colon to the scene. Over 40,000 gallons of water were used to put out the blaze.
Firefighters were on scene for over five hours. Damages were estimated at $200,000. No injuries were reported.
