PORTAGE, MI (WTVB) – The season ended for the Coldwater Cardinal girls basketball team Wednesday night, as they fell to DeWitt 41-18 in an MHSAA Division 1 Regional Final at the Portage Northern High School Igloo.
The Panthers set the tone early by shutting out the Cardinals 7-0 in the first quarter. DeWitt would go on to outscore Coldwater 12-6 in the second, 13-10 in the third, and 9-2 in the fourth. In fact, Coldwater’s first points of the night wouldn’t come until midway through the second quarter.
Mya Porter had a team-high 7 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Her cousin, Rylie VanAken, added 5 points, 6 boards, and a block.
Coldwater concluded the campaign with a record of 17-9.

DeWitt was led by Sophia Beland, who led all scorers with 13 points. The Panthers improved to 25-1 and will face Belleville next Tuesday in a Division 1 Quarterfinal at Holt. Belleville advanced with a 65-35 win over Hartland at the Howell Regional Final.
