ALGANSEE TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A busy week for area firefighters continued on Wednesday afternoon as a structure fire broke out in the 400 block of South Fremont Road just north of Warren Road.
Quincy firefighters were dispatched at 4:26 p.m.. They received automatic mutual aid from the Coldwater and Lakeland Fire Departments.
Quincy Fire Chief Mike Sherman says Lakeland firefighters were nearby, working another incident and were able to break free and be on the scene within a few minutes of the initial alarm.
Firefighters found heavy fire on the first floor of the two story house. It took about an hour to get the flames under control.
Sherman reports the fire extended into the walls and attic space throughout the home making for a lengthy overhaul process.
The home was undergoing renovation and unoccupied at the time of the fire.
According to Sherman, the fire is believed to have started from discarded staining materials. Firefighters were on scene for nearly two and a half hours. No injuries were reported.
LifeCare Ambulance was called in on a standby basis while the Branch County Sheriff’s Department and the Michigan State Police handled traffic duties.
