LANSING, MI (WTVB) – State health officials say a sixth Michigan child has died of influenza this season, and they were from the local area.
The flu-associated death was reported to the state by the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency during the week ending March 1, but state officials would not provide additional information, including which of the three counties the death occurred, saying “this might identify the child.”
Other counties that have reported a pediatric flu death this season include Genesee, Kent, Macomb, and Wayne.
Nationally, there have been 114 reported pediatric flu deaths during the 2024-2025 flu season. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says Michigan continues to have one of the highest levels of flu-like illness throughout the country.
