UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – The Union City Board of Education accepted the report of a Facilities Steering Committee made up of local citizens on Monday night and approved presenting a plan to the State Treasurer’s office for a potential bond election.
The board is scheduled to hold a special meeting on April 7 to decide whether or not a nearly $30 million bonding proposal will be placed on the August 5 ballot.
The Facilities Steering Committee looked into the future of the district’s buildings over the last several months.
Superintendent Chris Katz said last month the committee felt it was time to close the middle school. In addition, the committee recommended expanding the high school for students in the sixth through 12th grade and that the elementary school be renovated.
Katz said they are looking at a bonding request of up to $30 million that they hope would go before district voters in August.
In other business, the board approved moving the superintendent evaluation from annual to every two years after Katz received positive evaluations for three straight years.
