COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Police say a man was assaulted by a homeless person in downtown Coldwater late Tuesday evening.
Just after 11:00 p.m. the Coldwater Police Department was called about a man standing in the road on East Chicago Street near Clay Street. When they arrived officers encountered a 38-year-old man from Calhoun County who was agitated and had blood on his hands.
While police were talking to the suspect, another call came in from a victim who reported the suspect had just assaulted him.
The victim, a 33-year-old Coldwater man, reported that he was driving on East Chicago Street downtown when he was blocked by the suspect, who was standing in the street refusing to let him pass.
A press release from the police department said the victim stepped out of his vehicle and was assaulted by the homeless man. During the altercation, the suspect bit the victim in the face.
Multiple windows were also broken in the area prior to the assault.
The suspect is expected to face felony charges, and the case remains under investigation. Coldwater Police were assisted at the scene by the Michigan State Police.
Police are asking anyone with information about the case, either the assault or the damaged property to contact Officer Saleh at (517) 278-4525.
I’m not sure why the Officer would need any information about this, maybe witnesses? Sure were a lot of people who slowed down to view it, from the video I watched. So Saleh should have lot’s of witnesses
The city can expect more of this if they don’t address the problems. I see self made homeless people wandering the streets of Coldwater more than ever. Many are quite capable of working but just need a hand up not a hand out. Clemens and other companies are begging for help.
