STURGIS, MI (WTVB) – The open burning of candles near a bed is being listed as the probable cause of a Sturgis house fire Saturday night.
A mattress fire in an upstairs bedroom took place in a house in the 200 block of North Fourth Street just after 7:00 p.m.
Firefighters managed to contain the fire to the bedroom and save a pet rabbit.
All of the home occupants got out by the time firefighters arrived.
The residence has been deem unlivable due to the amount of smoke and water damage.
The family is being assisted by the American Red Cross and St Joseph County Victim’s Services.
