COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – There has been another twist in the ongoing saga of a proposed rezoning of land which has sparked a large amount of objections from residents along West Pearl Street.
Interim Coldwater Planning and Zoning Administrator Dean Walrack has told members of the Coldwater Plan Commissione that the NRP Group has indicated that they wish to pursue a conditional rezoning as opposed to a traditional rezoning.
Walrack says this essentially entails the applicant inviting a set of limitations on their ability to develop the site and a timeline for them to undertake their development activities or else the site will revert to its previous zoning classification.
The conditions in this case according to Walrack are no more than 70 apartment units, vehicular access redirected to Riverside Drive and limiting any potential to develop into the woodlands to the western side of the site.
Walrack went on to say in his memo to the Planning Commission that this area is currently designated wetland, but it has come to the city’s attention during investigating the permitting process for the Clemens forced wastewater main that much of that wetland may not meet the qualifications to qualify for Michigan Department of Enviromental Quality protection.
NRP has expressed an interest in buying the former Franklin Educational Facility property for $425,000 from Coldwater Community Schools in hopes of putting in a housing development.
The rezoning request to turn the property from A-1 One Family Residential to A-3 Multi-Family Residential is scheduled to come back before the Coldwater Plan Commission Monday evening.
