COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In case you were wondering about the Detroit television news crew at the Lakeland Correctional facility in Coldwater Wednesday, they were covering the release of a Detroit man who is free after nearly 30 years in prison for a crime the victim says Bernard Young didn’t commit.
Thomas Tadlock recanted his testimony in September 2016, saying an innocent man was serving time for crimes committed by his mother’s boyfriend at the time in 1989.
That has led to Young receiving a new trial. He had been accused by Tadlock and his brother of sexually assaulting them in the late 1980s, and served 27 years of a 60 to 100-year sentence.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy plans to appeal the judge’s decision to release Young.
