COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater outhit Hastings 27-2 as they swept an Interstate 8 doubleheader against the Saxons at the Rotary Softball Complex, 16-1 in three innings and 14-0 in five innings.
In the first game, Audi Bucklin allowed one run on two hits, no walks, and five strikeouts. Harper Morrill, Mackenzie Searing, and Vandria Bucklin all doubled, and Rylie VanAken hit a solo home run. Searing drove in three runs, and Audi Bucklin drove in four.
Searing threw a no-hitter in the nightcap, allowing a walk and striking out four. Vandria Bucklin singled, doubled, and homered, while Rylie VanAken added another round-tripper as every starter collected at least one hit.
The Cardinals improved to 8-2 overall, 4-2 in the Interstate 8, and will host Parma Western on Tuesday.
QUINCY, MI – Quincy dropped both halves of a doubleheader against former Big 8 rival Homer, losing the opener 18-1 in five innings and the nightcap 16-14.
Deziray Skirka had Quincy’s only hit and drove in their only run in the first game. Hannah Brown and Taylor Lewis shared the pitching duties, giving up 6 earned runs in the game, but it was Quincy’s seven errors that allowed the game to get out of hand.
In the second game, Danica Skirka allowed three earned runs and struck out nine in seven innings of work. The Orioles’ defense continued to falter as they committed 10 errors. Offensively, Danica Skirka drove in four runs on two singles and a double. Miley Poindexter had three hits and stole 2 bases. Abby Burritt had two hits and drove in three.
Quincy fell to 7-9 on the season and will travel to Mendon on Saturday for their invitational.
HORTON, MI – Bronson dropped both ends of a non-conference doubleheader at Hanover-Horton, 2-0 and 4-2.
The Vikings could only muster a single hit off Comet pitcher Alexyn DuBois, a double by Kailynne Scare. Ashlyn Harris took the loss despite allowing only three hits and striking out 15.
Hanover-Horton outhit Bronson in the nightcap 12-4. Two of those hits were home runs from Scare and Lydia Wells, while Harris added a double and notched 10 strikeouts in relief of starting pitcher Maddie Shaw.
The Vikings fell to 7-5 overall and return to Big 8 action Tuesday at home against Quincy.
Union City lost the first game of their scheduled doubleheader at Centreville 12-1 in five innings. Information on their second game was unavailable at press time.
