Steven John “Steve” Ruby, 72, of Sherwood, passed away on Friday, April 18, 2025, at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital.
In keeping with Steve’s wishes, he will be cremated and a gathering of family and friends with military honors will be held from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation, 1276 Tate Trail, Union City, MI 49094.
Steve was born on May 28, 1952 in Hastings, Michigan to John and Donna (Tobias) Ruby. He lived in Hastings for several years before moving to Sherwood. He married Barbara Billington on June 22, 1973 in Hastings and had lived in Sherwood for the past 35 plus years. Barbara preceded him in death in 2013. Steve had worked in construction and farming for many years.
Steve was a member of Factoryville Bible Church. He was also proudly affiliated with the VFW of Athens. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting deer, fishing, collecting rocks, and trapping varmints. He was well recognized for his storytelling abilities.
Steve is survived by his children, John (Jennifer) Ruby of Sherwood and Stacy (Dan) Joseph of Fredericksburg, Texas; his grandchildren Joshua Ruby, Joseph Ruby, Jesse James Everett (Morgan) Ruby, John “Buba” (Jazzy) Ruby, Jr; his great-granddaughter, Raelle Raine Ruby; and his sister Sue Preston of Hastings. In addition to his wife Barbara, Steve was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Johnny Ruby.
