COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater Community School Superintendent Paul Flynn told the Coldwater School Board of Education Monday night that attendance at the Browne Aquatic Center has gone up when compared to last year.
He said 720 more patrons used the facility last month than in March of 2024. In addition, there were 258 more patrons in first 20 days of April when compared to the same time last year, water fitness classes are now being held six days a week and Flynn said this month alone they managed to increase membership by 15 contracts.
The School Board approved an Independent Contractor Agreement with Hampton Aquatics & Fitness LLC out of Battle Creek last November to manage and operate the Browne Aquatic Center. Hampton officially took over on New Year’s Day.
Hampton’s hiring was part of a five year Intergovernmental and Interlocal contract between the City of Coldwater and Coldwater Community Schools on the operation of the swimming pool facility which called for the hiring and oversight of a full-time aquatic director.
It was revealed last summer that the operation of the pool was in the red by over $300,000 per year. Numerous meetings involving local school and government officials were held to find a solution to the financial problem.
