PARMA, MI (WTVB) – First place in the Interstate 8 boys basketball standings will be on the line tonight when the Coldwater Cardinals play at Parma Western. The Cardinals and Panthers are tied for first with 7-1 conference records with Marshall one game back at 6-2. Coldwater is 10-2 overall while Parma Western is 11-2.
The Panthers defeated the Cardinals 59-51 in Coldwater on December 16th. Coldwater will be looking to bounce back after their eight game winning streak was halted by Sturgis Tuesday night.
The boys game will be the second half of a girls/boys varsity doubleheader which starts at 6:00 p.m. The Coldwater girls are 10-3 overall and 5-3 in the Interstate 8. They have won five of their last six games.

The Coldwater JV boys team won their eighth game of the season Thursday evening with a 41-40 road victory over Parma Western. The Cardinals avenged their early season loss to the Panthers. They were led by Austin Santure with 10 points and seven rebounds.
Also in boys basketball tonight, Union City is at Homer, Quincy will host Athens and Bronson will host New Buffalo.

Homer 50, Union City 24
The Chargers were only able to dress seven players due to injuries, illness and other obligations. Kiley Spenelli led the Chargers with nine points while Autumn Carpenter had 11 rebounds.
Quincy 41, Athens 35
Quincy outscored Athens 15-4 in the final quarter as the Orioles rallied for their fourth straight win. Athens led 31-26 entering the fourth quarter. Hannah Economou led the Orioles with 15 points and 11 rebounds while Payton Hines had 13 points and three steals. Cailyn Cook and Katie Rathbun both had three assists.
Bronson 72, New Buffalo 34
Adyson Lasky led Bronson with 14 points as the Vikings improved to 11-3.

Coldwater’s junior varsity girls basketball team lost 42-32 against Parma Western. Their record is now 5-10. Kelsi Herlan led the scoring effort with 12 points. Bailey Burkhardt pulled down eight rebounds.
The Coldwater freshman girls defeated Parma Western 36-23. Taylor Wilber led Coldwater with 14 points.
—Middle School Girls Basketball—
Coldwater’s 8th grade A team defeated Sturgis 46-9. Madison Beckhusen led Coldwater with 13 points while Mia Rzepka had 11 points. Abby Herman grabbed seven rebounds.
Coldwater’s 8th Grade White team beat Sturgis 31-4. Joselyn Salto had 15 points to lead Coldwater.
