COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The three day Branch County Circuit Court drug trial of a Detroit man ended abruptly Tuesday when the defendant entered into a plea agreement with prosecutors.
34-year-old Brandon Smiley entered no contest pleas to attempted possession of less than 25 grams of heroin and cocaine.
Smiley is scheduled to be sentenced March 13, 2017.
He was scheduled for trial on a pair of counts of Delivery and Manufacturing Narcotics less than 50 grams and for being an habitual offender. His bond was $1 million following his arrest last August in Kinderhook Township.
Smiley was stopped by the Michigan State Police on I-69 for not having a license plate. A temporary Indiana tag in the rear window was also expired.
Michigan State Police say 22 grams of alleged cocaine and another six grams of alleged heroin were discovered behind the drivers side headlight.
