WATERLOO, IN (WTVB) – A single-vehicle rollover crash on Interstate 69 in DeKalb County, Indiana Friday afternoon left three Coldwater, Michigan residents injured, including a six-year-old child.
The accident occurred just before 1:30 p.m. near mile marker 335, north of the U.S. 6 exit, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.
The vehicle, a 2002 Buick LeSabre driven by 46-year-old Kirk Traver was traveling northbound in the passing lane when another vehicle attempted to merge into its lane. To avoid a collision, Traver swerved into the median, but overcorrected multiple times, causing the car to roll over and land on its roof against the median cable barrier.
Traver, along with passengers 44-year-old Barbara Gruner and a six-year-old juvenile, all sustained head injuries. Kirk Traver also suffered knee injuries. All three were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by Indiana State Police, Indiana State Excise Police, Waterloo Fire Department, Parkview EMS, and DeKalb County Central Communications, responded to the scene.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash, that temporarily disrupted traffic on I-69.
