COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners brought forward a contractor bid during their work session on Thursday morning from Kalleward Group of Kalamazoo for the courtroom renovation project in the Branch County Courthouse which will take place later this year.
Project Manager Abonmarche Byce recommended the Kalleward bid of $1,097,458 which was one of three submitted.
Kalleward also submitted a bid of over $62,000 for renovation work at the Health Department but that bid will be dealt with at another time.
County Administrator Frank Walsh said in his memo to the Commissioners that the bids do not include furnishing and IT improvements and that they are internally working on budgets of $380,000 for furnishings and $150,000 for IT.
Walsh said, “We fully understand the budget is tight, and we must look at every opportunity to refrain from trespassing beyond our budget.”
Formal action by the Commissioners on the courtroom renovation bid is expected to be taken during their regular meeting on Tuesday.
The renovation work in the District, Circuit and Probate courtrooms is expected to take almost six months to complete. The work is being done in part to increase security and bring the courtrooms into A.D.A. compliance.
