COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch Intermediate School District Board of Education has decided to promote from within for its top administrator.
At a special meeting Wednesday evening, the board voted unanimously to begin contract negotiations with Darrin Adair to become the district’s next Superintendent. Adair currently serves as the Assistant Superintendent of Special Education for the Branch ISD.
The decision was made at the conclusion of two days of interviews with three candidates. While board members said they were impressed with all three candidates, they felt Adair’s experience and passion for student success set him apart from the others.
Howard Edwards, the Director of School Learning for the South Bend Community School Corporation in Indiana and Steve Head, the retired Superintendent of Onsted Community Schools were the other two finalists.
Originally two rounds of interviews were scheduled but the board said it decided that after listening to Adair discuss his vision and his familiarity with the organization, the local districts, and Branch County, a second interview was not necessary.
Adair will assume his new role July 1, 2025 and will replace current Superintendent Kris Jenkins, who is retiring after seven years as the head of the BISD.
