COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A bid on the type of wood that will be used for the furniture in the renovated Branch County courtrooms was brought forward by the Branch County Board of Commissioners during their work session on Thursday.
The Commissioners brought forward a request from Administrator Frank Walsh that Maple Wood be used in all three courtrooms at a cost of just over $181,000. Formal action is expected to be taken during the Commissioners regular meeting next Tuesday.
The wood would be provided by Sauder Courtrooms out of Archbold, Ohio. They serve as a distributor for American Furniture Contractors Incorporated from Grand Rapids.
Walsh said the wood from Sauder for spectator benches, desks and lecterns included a 25-year warranty.
He added Sauder specializes in renovating courtrooms. They most recently overhauled the courtrooms in Kalamazoo County.
Walsh said in his memo to the Commissioners that with the addition of the chairs, they will be between $160,000 and $170,000 below the total budget of $380,000 for courtroom furniture.
The IT enhancements to the courtrooms have a $150,000 budget. Walsh plans to discuss chairs and the IT enhancements with the Commissioners sometime in June.
