UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – The Union City Chargers baseball team completed the Big 8 Conference portion of their schedule on Friday evening by sweeping Stockbridge 10-0 and 11-2 at Alumni Field.
Union City’s Eli Payne was the winning pitcher in the first game as he struck out 11 and tossed a two hitter.
The Chargers broke the game open with a six run second inning as they sent 11 batters to the plate.
Every batter in the Chargers lineup reached base at least once. Alex Boyer and Simon Swartzle both had two hits with Boyer contributing a double.
Carson Liles and Aidan Decker both scored twice.
The Chargers set the tone in the nightcap by scoring five runs in the first inning and four more in the second. That was more than enough support for starting pitcher Nolan Chard as he got the win.
Rick Austin had a two run single in the first. Payne had two hits and scored twice in the nightcap. Swartzle, Decker and Tucker Zweng all scored two runs.
The Chargers are now 15-13 overall and they finished 9-5 in the Big 8 Conference.
