LANSING,MI (WTVB) – The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is urging residents to take precautions outdoors as cases of tick-borne diseases continue to climb.
Lyme disease cases have jumped 168 percent since 2020, while anaplasmosis infections have increased nearly fivefold. Both illnesses are spread by blacklegged ticks and can cause fever, fatigue, and muscle aches.
Officials recommend using insect repellent, checking for ticks after time outdoors, and promptly removing any ticks found. In 2024, Michigan reported over 1,200 Lyme cases and 82 cases of anaplasmosis.
