America was born on January 27, 1939 to Maria Martiez in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. America lived a life marked by dedication, strength, and compassion.
A hardworking and resilient woman, she touched the lives of many through her unwavering work ethic and warm, welcoming spirit. During her years at FireKeepers Casino, she became known not just for her professionalism, but for the kindness she showed to everyone around her.
America’s greatest pride and joy were her children and their families. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who always put family first. She also had a remarkable gift for gardening. Her legendary green thumb could bring life and beauty to even the most fragile plant.
America is survived by her loving daughter, Elizabeth Otis; her son, Burton (Nichole) Swick; her seven cherished grandchildren, Sarah (Kenny), Hailey, Maria (Tony), Dylan (US Army), Lennon, Lillian, and Morrison; and her five beloved great-grandchildren, Izabella, Alexander, Aneasha, Samantha, and Joseph.

I worked with America at Firekeepers (not directly) for many years, she was one of the sweetest, nicest ladies you’d ever want to meet. Always ready with a smile and a wave or to ask how your day was going. I’m sure going to miss seeing her every morning on my way home in the morning either out on the floor or sitting in the TDR. America your presence will definately be missed.
