BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – The Bronson City Council tonight will address a dilapidated property at 630 North Matteson Street that they say has been an eyesore in the community for many years has been continuing to deteriorate.
Tickets for violations of the 4 International Property Maintenance Code were issued to the property owner in February and May of this year after letters to address the issues were ignored.
An informal hearing was held April 3. During that hearing the Branch County Magistrate issued the fines outlined on the civil infraction tickets but did not give an order to the owner to make corrections with any type of timeframe, and since there had been no effort to improve the building, the second ticket was recently sent.
Tonight City Attorney Charles Lillis will to discuss the next steps. Options include:
1. Have the City Attorney petition the court for a new hearing to get an order issued against him to pressure the property owner to do something.
2. The Council can issue a notice to make repairs under section 10.10 Hazards and Nuisances under the City Charter. If the corrections are not made, the City can make the improvements and assess it on the taxes.
The Council will also address the 2026 budget as well as look at updating food truck ordnances to assure they are not operate in areas that are in direct competition with local restaurants.
