ST. JOSEPH, MI (WTVB) – A Colon woman has filed a lawsuit against Amtrak after she was stabbed in the chest during a bizarre incident on a train in December of 2014.
Gayle Van Vorst is the second passenger who was stabbed to take Amtrak to court. The incident happened on the Wolverine as the train approached Niles.
Van Vorst says in her lawsuit that Amtrak was “negligent, careless and reckless” for not throwing Michael Williams off the train before he wounded four persons with an eight inch knife.
Williams had a psychotic episode on board and claimed he was seeing demons. He was later found not guilty of the assaults by reason of insanity.
Van Vorst and fellow passenger Bonnie Cleasby are seeking damages for medical bills and post-traumatic stress.
