QUINCY TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A fire which was whipped by 35 mile an hour wind gusts destroyed a large barn Tuesday night.
The fire was reported at about 10:10pm near Wildwood and Stringtown Roads.Quincy Fire Chief Mike Sherman says crews could see the fire from several miles out. Upon arrival, crews found the barn fully engulfed in flames with several attached and surrounding buildings beginning to catch fire.
Mutual aide was requested from Coldwater, Allen, Reading, Fremont and Lakeland Fire Departments to assist with water supply.
Sherman says the strong west winds made the fire challenging but crews were able to quickly confine the fire to the building of origin.
Nearby buildings and their contents were spared from any significant damage. An old dairy barn was no longer in operation and was used for light agricultural storage.
Sherman says the cause of the fire is under investigation but is believed to be accidental in nature.
The Jonesville and Hillsdale City Fire Departments also provided support assistance as well as the Branch County Victim Services Unit, Lifecare Ambulance and Quincy Police.
Crews cleared the scene at 2:42am Wednesday morning. No injuries were reported.
