COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Two more Special Land Use permit requests from proposed recreational retail marijuana establishments on South Willowbrook Road are scheduled to come before the Coldwater Planning Commission on Monday evening.
One is from Lume Cannibis which would operate from the current location of Coldwater Auto Service at 351 South Willowbrook Road. Coldwater Auto Service plans to move to a new location sometime in the near future.
Coldwater Auto Service is moving to a new location in the near future.
The site currently consists of a nearly 25-year-old steel pole building which is now used for vehicle repair and a gravel parking lot which will be paved. Plans call for the existing building to be completely renovated at a cost of about $500,000.
The current auto repair business has five employees. It’s estimated the retail recreational marijuana business will have 20 employees.
The second request is from Green Peak Industries of Diamondale for an establishment at 352 South Willowbrook Road. City Planner Dean Walrack says Green Peak is requesting permission to operate the establishment from the north-most suite of the commercial strip development which was formerly occupied by the Sears store. All physical changes to the building will be to the interior.
If approved, the proposed recreational retail marijuana establishments would be the third and fourth ones in Coldwater.
We don’t need any more marijuana stores near the Willowbrook Rd. shopping areas. We should wait to see how things go with the ones already recently approved. We should monitor the crime statistics and traffic accident statistics in the area for at least a year.
