UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – Union City Community Schools has been awarded another grant from the State of Michigan. This grant is in the amount of $2.86 million.
The grant is funded through section 12a called the MI Healthy Schools Grant. $50 million has been awarded this year, with the most recent batch of $25 million just announced.
The funds will be used for implementing improvements in air quality allowing the installation of new unit ventilators as well as air conditioning. Funds also can be used to improve drinking water quality as well as conduct abatement of asbestos.
The total amount awarded to Union City Conmunity Schools in this grant is $2.86 million. The funds must be matched by the district.
Earlier this year the district was awarded $23.6 million by the state to consolidate three school buildings into two by renovating the elementary and high school facilities and demolishing the middle school.
