COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council set a public hearing on Monday night for its next meeting on January 23, 2017 concerning the jurisdictional transfer of around 382 acres of state-owned property at the Lakeland Correctional Facility from Coldwater Township to the City.
Interim City Manager Keith Baker said this is not the first transfer between the two government units. He said the move would increase the amount of state revenue sharing available for providing fire protection services to state facilities.
Mayor Tom Kramer called it a win-win situation.
The Coldwater Township Board approved the land transfer at its meeting on Monday night.
The Council also passed a resolution which granted a 12 year tax abatement for the Clemens Food Group and they passed on second reading an ordinance which will allow Child Group Daycare Homes by a special use permit in A-1 One Family Residential Districts.
