COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Planning Commission is scheduled to consider a request Tuesday evening for the rezoning of over nine acres of property which used to be the site of the Franklin Educational Facility.
NRP Properties has expressed an interest in buying the property for $425,000 from Coldwater Community Schools in hopes of putting in a housing development.
NRP is asking to rezone the property from A-1 One Family Residential to A-3 Multi Family Residential. According to the packet for Tuesday’s meeting, NRP has gotten permission from the Coldwater school district to seek the rezoning.
A nearby property owner has objected to the rezoning request. Pete Baker says the proposed development is modern in appearance and is incompatible with the neighborhood and the setting of the nearby Sauk River Trail.
Baker says the increased traffic and visual dissonance will harm the current “feel” of his part of town which includes the West Pearl Street Historical District.
The Planning Commission is also scheduled to take action on a request from Haylett Auto and RV for a new parking lot of over 55,000 square feet to be located at 621 Lott Road.
