STEUBEN COUNTY. IN (WTVB) – An Indiana State Police (ISP) trooper arrested a kidnapping suspect in Steuben County Saturday.
According to the agency, the trooper found the kidnapping suspect and victim at the I-69 rest stop in Steuben County around 1:00 a.m. after being informed by DeKalb County Dispatch of a 14-year-old who was picked up in Ionia, Michigan, by a man from Kentucky.
The Ionia County (MI) Sheriff’s Department says it notified DeKalb County Dispatch of the suspect information and a vehicle description. That information and description were then made available to the ISP trooper.
The ISP trooper says they found a vehicle matching the description, and after investigating, were able to identify the suspect and victim.
42-year-old Chayleang Tiang of Paris, Kentucky was found to be with a minor out of Ionia, Michigan.
With further investigation, ISP says it was able to determine that Tiang had driven from Kentucky to Michigan to meet the minor.
The Ionia County Sheriff’s Department had a warrant for Tiang for kidnapping, and he was arrested by the Indiana State Police on that warrant.
Tiang was then transported to the Steuben County Jail, where he will wait for extradition to Michigan.
