COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council tried to address complaints at the end of Monday night’s meeting about fireworks, homeless persons in Coldwater, and a recent increase in vandalism.
Council member Travis Machan said fireworks over the Fourth of July weekend were constantly being shot off after 11:00 p.m..
Director of Public Safety Joe Scheid said citations have been issued.
Machan asked Scheid how Coldwater Police handle the complaints.
On another matter, Council Member Jim Knaack wondered if the city was doing enough to address the homeless issue.
City Manager Keith Baker said there have been staff discussions.
The homeless situation in Coldwater has led to vandalism incidents downtown and in the city parks.
Mayor Tom Kramer says there has been an uptick in vandalism over the last year. He has asked Baker and Scheid to look into how other communities are handling the situation and bring back some ideas for discussion.

Other cities don’t recruit unskilled unassimilated people in masses. A lot of homeless and vandalism if we stopped doing that.
