COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners heard concerns about low lake levels, weed control and a lack of action on clogged drains from lake residents during the public comment portion of their meeting Tuesday afternoon.
Ken Klein from the North Chain Lake Association said the current weed control program on the lakes is penalizing residents who live on the channels.
Scott Kosmerick said a drain near his home on Bingham Lake is plugged up.
Commissioners also heard complaints from an audience member about a drain that he claimed was decommissioned by Branch County Drain Commissioner Michael Hard which led to a lake being down 27 inches.
Hard was not present but he has been asked by Commissioners to attend their work session on July 24 to address concerns brought up during Tuesday’s meeting.
In other business, the Commissioners formally approved a request from Administrator Frank Walsh to discontinue the furlough day program beginning in 2026. Furlough days were implemented years ago as a way to save utility costs when county buildings were closed for a holiday.
They also formally accepted the 2024 audit which was presented last Thursday by the Lansing C.P.A. firm of Maner Costerisan. The County received an unmodified opinion which is the highest level that can be given.
