COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – With a goal of setting area students up for success when they return to school next month, the Coldwater Board of Public Utilities (CBPU) and the City of Coldwater are organizing a school supply drive to support local students in need.
The CBPU has pledged $1,000 in support of this initiative, along with issuing the challenge to City and CBPU employees for donations of school supplies. This philanthropic opportunity is being extended to the entire Coldwater community from now until August 13.
Aside from the typical consumable school supplies like pencils, crayons, notebook paper, and glue, other donation requests from school staff include socks, refillable water bottles, breakfast foods, disinfectant wipes, backpacks, feminine hygiene products, and colored copy paper.
City of Coldwater/CBPU’s Community Engagement Coordinator Stephanie Burdick says , “The needs of schools have grown over the years as funding to them has continued to decrease. Together, we can invest in our community’s future by supporting education and equipping these young students within our community with the resources they need to succeed.”
She continued, “I’m proud that the CBPU and City of Coldwater recognize the needs of area schools and have the desire to help. I’m hopeful that area individuals, service clubs, and businesses will also partner with us and answer this call for help. And with all of the back-to-school sales, it’s easy to just spend a few dollars and make a big impact!”
Collection boxes are located at City Hall, located at 1 Grand St and the Coldwater Rec Center, at 1776 Heritage Drive. Donations will be collected until August 13 and then distributed to five area elementary schools: St. Charles Borromeo, Pansophia Academy, Max Larsen Elementary, Jefferson Elementary, and Lakeland Elementary.
