COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council approved a change order of just over $186,000 for the North Clay Street reconstruction project on Monday night.
City Manager Keith Baker said it involves the second phase of the project from Waterman Avenue to Harrison Street as well as the milling and repaving of a number of local streets including South Clay.
As preparations were made for the start of the work, it was discovered that the stormwater infrastructure in a section North Clay was in worse condition than previously thought.
The Council approved a request to expand the project in order to replace an additional 860 feet of stormwater main and seven manhole and catch basin structures at a cost of $112,100.
In addition, the city will not mill and repave South Monroe Street as previously planned due to the number of events on that street.
Instead, work will be extended further on South Clay at a cost of just under $74,000 since city officials feel that street is in worse shape than South Monroe.
The City County awarded the bid for the second phase of the North Clay project last April to Nashville Construction Company in the amount of over $1-point-4 million.
The project was included in the Fiscal Year 2025-26 budget with funds allocated from the City’s Act 51 Major and Local Street Fund as well as the CBPU Water Fund.
