Ronald “Ron” Gibson, 79, of Union City, passed away on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at his home, under hospice care, surrounded by his family.
In keeping with Ron’s wishes, he will be cremated and no public service will be held at this time. The family is being served by Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation in Union City.
Ron was born on July 25, 1946, to Jay and Betty (MacAnelly) Gibson in Bloomington, Illinois. He graduated from Bloomington High School with the Class of 1964. Ron furthered his education, receiving a Bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University in Industrial Arts, and a Master’s degree from Central Michigan University in Special Education. On August 14, 1971, he married Susan Pauley in Rockford, Illinois. He was a Special Education teacher at Star Common Wealth in Albion, Michigan, a professor at Central Michigan University, and University of Wyoming. In 1978, Ron and Susan bought the Victorian Villa Inn in Union City and opened it as a Bed & Breakfast in 1982. He enjoyed antiques, graphics, woodworking, fine foods, restaurants, but most of all, restoring and furnishing The Victorian Villa.
Surviving Ron are his wife, Susan Gibson of Union City, his son, Josh (Terri Norris) Gibson of Union City; his siblings, Betty Swartz of Bloomington, IL and Steven Fry of Union City; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Zachary Gibson, and his sister Patricia Abrams.
