BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office says a week-long, targeted investigation into human trafficking and child exploitation has resulted in the arrest of two adult males attempting to engage in sexual activity with a minor.
The multi-agency effort included support from the Albion Department of Public Safety, Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi Tribal Police, Southwest Enforcement Team, Marshall Police Department, Michigan State Police, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Calhoun County Consolidated Dispatch Authority.
58-year-old Daniel Joseph Styler of Battle Creek and 45-year-old Stephen Allen Mayne of Savannah, Georgia were taken into custody and formally charged with accosting a child for immoral purposes and using a computer or the internet to communicate with another person to commit a crime
“The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office is committed to protecting the most vulnerable members of our community – our children,” said Sheriff Steve Hinkley. “If you come after our children, we’re coming after you.”
The department says the investigation is ongoing.
