COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Administrator Frank Walsh told the Board of Commissioners Tuesday that contract negotiations with unions representing county employees are heading in the right direction.
He said they are currently negotiating with two police unions.
The Commissioners were scheduled to review contract offers to the two unions during a closed session on Tuesday.
Negotiations will take place at a later time with District and Circuit Court staff as well as with non-union employees.
Meanwhile, Walsh said work is proceeding on the county’s 2026 budget as he and Deputy County Administrator/Finance Director Jessica Miller are holding meetings with department heads and elected officials over the next week.
Under the county’s new timeline, the proposed budget will first be presented to Commissioners during their October 9 work session.
It will be reviewed two weeks later on October 23 with proposed special fund budgets, staffing and appropriations being presented at that meeting.
The required budget hearing will be conducted during the Commissioners November 12 meeting.
Final action on the proposed spending plan is scheduled for November 25.
